I'm looking for a cafe or otherwise comfy hangout that offers free WiFi. Somewhere I could grab a coffee from and get some work done. Preferrably in the downtown core.

Oh, you really can't go wrong with Urbana Coffee. Fair-trade and organic coffee, really nice location, and free wi-fi. They make some pretty decent smoothies and shakes too.

Aroma Espresso bar at Bloor & Bathurst has good coffee, decent food and free wifi.
Or if you really want to geek out there's the Linux Cafe.

I second Aroma @ Bloor & Bathurst, but you have to buy something to get their access code.
Sneaky Dee's has free wifi during the day.
Wireless Toronto has a number of free locations around the city: http://auth.wirelesstoronto.ca/hotspots_map.php , I suspect a few are cafes.

The Common on College St is a good one too (1058 College St). Although now lots of people know about the free wi-fi it does get busy at times. Cozy little place though and delicious home made snacks.
